Mechanisms of K+ transport in isolated turtle urinary bladder. Induction of active K+ secretion in a K+-absorbing epithelium.
Transepithelial K(+) movement was studied in vitro in the short-circuited turtle bladder by increasing luminal K(+) permeability and by inhibiting the basolateral Na/K pump. Luminal addition of amphotericin B caused net K(+) secretion (180+/-52 nmol/h) compared with net K(+) absorption (42+/-6 nmol/h) in control bladders. Serosal ouabain and luminal amiloride abolished K(+) secretion in amphote...
متن کاملPHEOCHROMOCYTOMA OF THE URINARY BLADDER
One of the rarest tumors involving the urinary bladder is the pheochromocytoma. A case of pheochromocytoma of the urinary bladder in a young female suffering from headache and cystitis for many years is reported. Twenty-four hour urine VMA was normal. The patient was never hypertensive except during surgical manipulation of the tumor. Biopsy of the bladder resulted in massive hemorrhage.

SO4(2-) transport by winter flounder intestine in Ussing chambers was characterized. With 50 mM SO4(2-) (physiological level) bathing the lumen, net absorption (lumen to blood) dominated. Under short-circuited conditions, 1 mM SO4(2-) on both sides, net active SO4(2-) secretion occurred (8.55 +/- 0.96 nmol. cm(-2). h(-1)). NaCN (10 mM), ouabain (10(-4) M), and luminal DIDS (0.2 mM) inhibited ne...
متن کاملEnergy dependence of urinary bicarbonate secretion in turtle bladder.
Addition of HCO3- to the serosal side (S) of the isolated turtle bladder results in a HCO3- flow from S to the mucosal side (M) which markedly reduces the net rate of acid secretion. To characterize the driving forces for this downhill HCO3- flow, the effects of metabolic inhibitors and substrates were examined. In short-circuited bladders with the M pH lowered to the point of zero net H+ secr...
متن کاملMONOPHASIC STATE OF INSULIN SECRETION IN ISOLATED RAT ISLETS OF LANGERHANS BY K+, Ca2+ AND GLUCOSE
Isolation of rat islets of Langerhans was carried out by using collagenase and the destruction of exocrine tissue was performed through the injection of Hanks' solution into the common bile duct. The identification of the islets was done by techniques including the use of a stereomicroscope against a black background. Vital staining was done by an injection of neutral red solution through t...
